The Banter Thiefs play their biggest Scottish gig of the year as they make their debut at the O2 ABC2 in Glasgow on Saturday, June 29.

The Motherwell four-piece, made up of singer David Clark, bassist Derek Watson, guitarist Keith Condie and drummer Darren O’Rourke also released their new single and video Rockstars on Monday.

The band were formed five years ago by David and Derek, with the current line-up having been together for the past three years.

David says they are now really starting to gain some traction.

He said: “The line-up is now definitely settled, we all get on really well and work great together.

“Things are really going well just now, the summer is always a busy time and we have recently done the Dirty Weekender and Stereofunk festivals.

“However, we’re delighted to have the opportunity to headline our own show at the ABC and it’s very nearly sold out.”

Rockstars is available on iTunes and Spotify, while the video can be viewed on The Banter Thiefs Youtube account.

David said: “I think it is probably the best thing we have done so far, we’ve played it live a few times and it seems to be going down really well.

“It is a little different to what we have done before, but it is a perfect summer track, and we tried to make it the kind of infectious song that people can’t help getting into.”

The group went to see The Stone Roses at Glasgow Green on Saturday and David says they are an inspiration.

He said: “We don’t try to sound like them, but the way they took the music world by storm is an inspiration for all young bands.”

Doors open at the ABC2 at 7pm, with support provided by Bright Young Nights, Interzone and The Van T’s.
