Youngsters set for Billy Elliot production

BUDDING young performers from Motherwell are among the cast of the Scottish School of Musical Theatre's production of Billy Elliot.

The Motherwell-based school will be staging their show throughout the area in June following auditions this month after writer Lee Hall and musical supervisor Martin Koch adapted the original script especially for schools and groups.

Billy Elliot will be played by Caroline McKeown from Hamilton, while the roles of his parents go to Chris Costello of Motherwell, and Rachel Oates from Newarthill.

Motherwell youngster Ryan O'Donnell will play Billy's friend Michael, while Grace Cunningham, also from Motherwell, will play his grandmother.

The role of Billy's brother was given to Alex Nimmo of Kirkmuirhill, Mrs Wilkinson to Victoria Cowan of Hamilton; Mrs Wilkinson's daughter to Gillian Manuel of Motherwell and Mrs Braithwaite to Lorna McMillan of Larkhall.
