Voice of Ireland’s Brian Kennedy

LANARKSHIRE promoters Intimate Gigs present internationally renowned singer Brian Kennedy at Motherwell Concert Hall on Sunday.

The Belfast born singer-songwriter, having enjoyed over 20 successful years in the music industry, is celebrating the release of his first new album for four years, ‘The Voice’, which has just entered the Irish charts at number three.

Brian found fame after leaving Northern Ireland at the age of 18 and was spotted while busking in London and recruited as backing vocalist for Van Morrison performing alongside the likes of Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell and Ray Charles.

This proved the springboard to a glittering solo career that has included UK chart success with hits including ‘A Better Man’, ‘Captured’, ‘Put the Message in the Box’ and the original version of ‘You Raise Me Up,’ which he sang at the funeral of fellow Belfast boy George Best.

His career has also seen him perform on Broadway, represent Ireland in the Eurovision Song Contest, write two best selling novels and star in his own BBC series.

Brian’s contribution to the Irish music industry was acknowledged with a lifetime achievement award at the Meteor Ireland Music Awards.

He said: “Playing at smaller venues allows me to get closer to my fans, speak to them and answer their questions as well as showcase my new album.”

Brian will be joined by Scottish singer-songwriter Maeve O’Boyle. Tickets priced £20 are available by visiting www.intimate-gigs.com, call 01698 403120 or in person from the Motherwell Concert Hall box office. Doors open at 7pm.
