Raise your glasses as publican Pat gets prize

A FAMILIAR face on Motherwell’s pub scene has been recognised with a top award.
Pat Ross, lessee of the Railway Tavern on Merry Street, has scooped a long service award at the Star Pub and Bars’ Star Pub Awards.
The company, which says the Railway Tavern is one of its leading pubs, held a gala celebration night in Manchester.
Pat (71) was given his award from Sky Sports Soccer Saturday presenter Jeff Stelling.
The award was made in recognition of his passion for the job and 30 years’ hard work behind the bar at the Railway Tavern.
Chris Moore, trading director of Scottish and Newcastle Pub Company (S&NPC) and one of the judges, said: “Pat is one of those people who is born to run a pub. It’s in his DNA and of his sons is now involved in the family business too.
“It’s a well-deserved award for all Pat’s hard work and his contribution to the local community over the last 30 years.”
Pat said: “It’s really great to be appreciated for the time and effort put in over all these years.
“I worked in factories and pits before I got a tenancy. I’ve gone from strength to strength and never looked back.”
