Heritage centre goes in pursuit of beauty
A NEW exhibition titled ‘In Pursuit of Beauty’ opens at North Lanarkshire Heritage Centre in Motherwell on Saturday.
The exhibition uses material from North Lanarkshire Council’s own collections of social history to take a look at the concepts of human beauty from past to present.
Exhibition curator Jenny Noble said: “We are showing a fascinating range of material that asks visitors of their idea of beauty and how far they would go to achieve it.
“We are showing some of the trends, fads and customs followed around the world through an eclectic range of adverts, film clips, archival photographs and objects from the museum collections.”
The centre is running a programme of school holiday activities, themed on the displays.

Meanwhile, Motherwell Civic Centre is hosting an exhibition of Lanarkshire artist James Linday’s work from Monday until September 3.
James has returned to his first love, oil painting, after a significant and lengthy career in advertising.
Now a full-time painter, splitting his time between Lanark and France, James’s preferred subject matter is landscape and cityscape and enjoys working directly outdoors before bringing his canvases back indoors for completion.
On display is a new body of work entitled ‘Weather Here, Wish You Were Lovely’ recently undertaken and completed whilst travelling abroad in his mobile studio/campervan.
Both exhibitions are free entry.
