Lloyds Banking Groups Craig Pollock presented 5,000 to Ups and Downs president Lorna Leggatt on Sunday.

UPS and Downs Theatre Group in Motherwell has been awarded £5,000 from Lloyds Banking Group’s community fund.

The music, theatre and dance club for young people with Down Syndrome was chosen to receive the cash after winning almost 36 per cent of a public vote which saw Ups and Downs chosen from almost 1,500 nominations to be one of two recipients.

Craig Pollock from Lloyds Banking Group dropped in on the group’s rehearsals at St Mary’s Church on Sunday as they prepare for their new show in Hamilton next spring.

The money will be spent on necessary radio microphone equipment since new Government legislation means all old equipment is now obsolete.

Ups and Downs president Lorna Leggatt said: “We are delighted to have won the Lloyds Banking Group Community Fund award through the votes of those who matter the most to us – the local community.

“The award means a great deal to Ups and Downs Theatre Group and will go towards the purchase of new radio microphone equipment for the club.”

Lloyds’s community and sustainable business director Paul Turner added: “The community fund highlights the group’s ongoing commitment to the communities we serve.

“We are proud to be able to help Ups and Downs Theatre Group continue the great work they are doing and we look forward to seeing the difference the award will make.”

Take 17 is at Hamilton Town House from March 4-9 (excluding the 6th) each performance starting at 7.30pm.

Tickets from £8 are available by calling 07407472409 or the box office on 01698 452299, visiting South Lanarakshire box office or email Ups and Downs
