Cancer charity event is hot stuff
IT was a walk in the park — with a difference as 21 Macmillan Cancer Support fundraisers headed for M&D's in Strathclyde Park on Saturday night.
The volunteers pulled off their socks and shoes to tackle a charity fire walk — walking barefoot across hot wooden embers.
Macmillan fundraising manager Angela McCormack was delighted at the turnout on Saturday.
She said: This is the first time we have organised this kind of event and we were delighted so many turned up on the night to complete the challenge.
"We are still receiving money in from the event but we hope to raise around 3,000 which will be distributed and used locally in Lanarkshire area."
Among those taking part in the fire walk was Motherwell Times & Bellshill Speaker editor Martin Clark.
He said: "I'm not quite sure how I got talked into this but it was a fantastic experience. Walking across the fire was something I'll never forget. And incredibly some of us actually did it twice on the night.
"Personally I would like to thank all my colleagues at the Times & Speaker for their support.
"Also my friends and my teammates at Uddingston Hockey Club for their encouragement and generous sponsorship.
"So far I've raised around 350 but if anyone still wishes to donate to
the appeal they can contact me at the Motherwell Times office or e-mail me on martin.clark@jpress.co.uk."
Macmillan Cancer Support wishes to point out that this event was organised by a professional company and should not be attempted by individuals.
