Abigail Melville joins Santa for his arrival at M&Ds accompanied by mum Leanne, brother Niall (4) and sister Iona (2)

HUNDREDS of people turned out at the opening of M&D’s Magical Winter Wonderland, including Santa himself who was joined by a special birthday girl Abigail Melville.

Abigail (9) celebrated her birthday in style on Friday, November 23, as she arrived at M&D’s accompanied by Santa Claus and his helpers on a Christmas train packed full of presents and goodies.

Abigail, from Balloch, is currently undergoing chemotherapy for a brain tumour after being diagnosed last year, and was invited to attend the parade by charity worker Les Hoey.

Mum Leanne said: “Abigail is currently undergoing chemo therapy so the trip to M&D’s was a fantastic treat – especially as it was Abigail’s birthday.

“The M&D’s staff were extremely attentive and the full family thoroughly enjoyed the stay – we can’t thank M&D’s or Les enough for their generosity.”

The award-winning East Kilbride Figure Skating Club also performed a routine for visitors to mark the launch of the new open-air skating rink.
