Gru is recruited to help deal with a powerful new super criminal in Despicable Me 2, released at the Showcase in Bargeddie on Friday.

No longer a villain after having saved his three adopted daughters Margo, Edith, and Agnes from rival super-villain Vector, Gru is having a birthday party for Agnes.

While he is outside, he, along with two of his minions, is approached and kidnapped by Lucy Wilde, and taken to the Anti-Villain League headquarters, where they ask for Gru to become a ‘spy’.

It is his mission to track down a new super-villain who has taken a research laboratory and an experimental compound that can transform lifeforms into mutant killing machines.

Despicable Me 2 is co-written by Ken Daurio and Cinco Paul who were responsible for the 2010 original, while Steve Carell returns to voice Gru, joined by Kristen Wiig as Lucy Wilde, Ken Jeong as Floyd and Russell Brand as Dr. Nefario.

Despicable Me 2 is rated U and runs 78 minutes.
