A young journalist is forced to confront his secret heritage when Earth is invaded in Man of Steel, released on Friday at the Showcase in Bargeddie.

Following success with previous comic book adaptations director Zack Snyder (Watchmen, 300) and writer David S Goyer (Blade, Batman Begins) team up to reboot Superman.

A young boy, Clark Kent, learns he has extraordinary powers and is not of Earth.

As a young man, he journeys to discover where he came from and what he was sent here to do.

But the hero in him must emerge to save the world from annihilation and become a symbol of hope.

Henry Cavill steps into the famous red and blue suit to do battle with his fellow Kryptonians led by General Zod (Michael Shannon).

Of course Superman doesn’t have to go it alone with support provided by Lois Lane (Amy Adams), adoptive parents Jonathan and Martha Kent (Kevin Costner and Diane Lane) and Perry White (Laurence Fishburne).

Man of Steel is rated 12A and runs 143 minutes.
