THE annual prizegiving ceremony took place at Braidhurst High recently when parents and friends attended in large numbers to see pupils receive various awards.
Pipers and drummers welcomed the platform party with their version of ‘We Will Rock You’, followed by introductory remarks from the chairman the Rev Derek Hughes.
He then introduced the principal guests - Motherwell Football Club chief executive Leeann Dempster, former school dux Sean Davies and rector Derrick Hannan’s wife Madeleine.
Awards to pupils in first and second year were presented by Mrs Hannan, followed by Samuel Davies playing a sax solo ‘An American in Paris’.
Certificates to pupils in third and fourth years were then presented by Sean Davies, who thoroughly entertained the audience with his remarks.
Fraser McCormack played a euphonium solo, much to the delight of the audience, before Ms Dempster presented certificates to pupils in senior school and the rector’s wife presented awards to pupils in various year groups for sports and house events.
The school samba group played to the highest standard before Mr Hannan addressed the audience in his vote of thanks with senior pupils making a presentation to the three principal guests.
