Soul legends Ben E King and Jimmy James tour together for the first time this summer and Ben says it is better late than never.
‘Superstars of Soul’ comes to Motherwell Concert Hall on Wednesday, August 28.
Ben said: “I have been friends with Jimmy for a long time, but this is the first time we have had the opportunity to tour together.
“Over the years our schedules were just never compatible, he is always very busy in the Caribbean and the UK, while I was in America.
“We were actually having a chat one day when he brought up that we should do something and then very quickly the necessary papers were drawn up and I am delighted we are finally able to get on the road together.
“So really it was happenstance that sprung from one conversation, but I’m glad everything has fallen into place and it’s better late than never.”
The Superstars of Soul tour takes in the length and breadth of the UK from Brighton to Inverness and Ben is thrilled to be turning to this side of the Atlantic.
He said: “I am always so relaxed when I know I have a British tour coming up as it feels like I am coming back to see family and I always have a great time.”
Ben has been performing professionally for more than 50 years and is delighted to be discoverd by each new generation.
He said: “First it was the parents, then the children and now the grandchildren.
“It seems I keep being introduced to new generations and I’m very grateful that’s the case. Songs like ‘Stand By Me’ and ‘Spanish Harlem’ everyone knows, but I don’t have a favourite song myself so I hope the audience enjoys everything I perform.”
DJs will also be on hand to entertain with the sounds of soul and Motown.
The show starts at 7.30pm and tickets costing £18.50 (£17.50 concessions) are available by calling 01698 403120 or visit NLC entertainment
