THE Scottish Soul, Funk And Jazz Society brings the biggest soul event in Lanarkshire for 25 years to the Alona Hotel in Strathclyde Country Park later this month.
A huge crowd from all over Britain and as far afield as America and Australia is expected to arrive on Saturday, March 24, for Soul In The Park featuring some of the Britain’s top soul, funk and jazz DJs.
The event runs from 7pm-1am and on the decks will be Bob Jeffries from Ayrshire, Mark Linton from Fife and Lanarkshire’s own Alex McDermott, from Blantyre, and Paul Lafferty, from Bellshill.
Paul has been DJ-ing since the early 1980s and has returned to the decks in recent years following a revival in the scene.
He said: “I have always liked this type of music and the scene was huge in the 80s only to die off a bit as the years went on, but it is definitely experiencing something of a revival.
“The Scottish Soul, Funk and Jazz Society has been instrumental in rekindling the interest and I have been booked all over Scotland and into England so it is definitely getting bigger and just shows that everything goes in cycles.”
Tickets costing £10 will available on the door.
Paul is also endeavouring to raise £7,000 for Mary’s Meals to build a school and health centre in Malawi and has hosted several events across Lanarkshire.
His next one takes place in Blantyre Miners on May 19.
