STUDENTS from Motherwell College made history by being the first allowed to perform inside the famous Wallace Monument.

HND Rock and Pop students took part in St Andrew’s Day celebrations at the attraction near Stirling, playing on three levels, including in the Hall for Heroes.

Cumbernauld College’s film students were on hand to record the event while photography students from Motherwell also captured the day.

Motherwell student Matthew McConnell said: “To be given the opportunity to perform inside the Wallace Monument was just incredible and to know that no-one else has ever done this before was pretty special.

“We had been practising really hard to ensure we were note perfect on the day – it was such a big occasion there was no room for error.”

Following the performance inside the monument, the official celebrations kicked off with the students performing original songs focusing on the poetry of Robert Burns for the public outside the monument and at the visitors’ centres.
