A MOTHERWELL singer has secured a spot at Scotland's newest music festival after she was spotted by Retrofest bosses performing in a Lanarkshire pub.
Laura Fletcher (30) was spotted by festival organiser Bradley Snelling as she enjoyed a night out in Hamilton's Windsor Bar.
Her performance of "Mr Rock 'n' Roll" was overheard by Mr Snelling, who manages Kajagoogoo, and he asked her to perform on
the new acts stage at Retrofest which will run from August 29 to August 31 in Strathclyde Country Park.
The mother-of-two first took to the stage at the age of 16 in Gartsherry Social Club and although she's been singing professionally in pubs and clubs across Glasgow and Lanarkshire for the last seven years, she was shocked when Snelling made his approach.
Laura said: "Initially I was flattered, but I thought that he was joking. However when I realised he was being serious I went into a state of shock. This sort of thing happens only to other people and I never dreamed that I would get this opportunity.
"I come from a very musical background. Not only is my husband a pianist but my father is also a drummer, guitarist and singer and my mother has a tremendous voice. Music is my life and to get the chance to perform live in front of thousands of people is a dream come true."
Mr Snelling said: "Laura's voice was an instant hit with me. It stopped me in my tracks and I knew straight away that she would be ideal for the new acts stage.
"The chance to perform on the new acts stage at Retrofest will allow Laura to perform in front of a real big crowd alongside some other fantastic up and coming artists including Echofela, Adrianna Band and Empire State Human.
"Although our festival is primarily a celebration of retro-music, there are so many great acts out there that we wanted to provide a platform for them to perform. Retrofest's new act stage is the ideal platform to hear these acts sing out tapping into a new fan base."
This year's festival boasts an impressive line up of acts which celebrates the 1980s music scene including The Bangles, Boy George, Peter Andre and Kim Wilde.
