THE first Bellshill Gala Day for many years took place on Saturday, June 13 and was hailed as a great success.

The event was organised by the Bellshill Interchurch Linx group and took place at Bellshill West Church.

The gala was preceded by colourful parade which left Orbiston Parish Church and picked up Gala Queen Morgan Mitchell at her Knivysbridge Place home en route to the crowning ceremony.

After the crowning ceremony, performed by local charity fundraiser and newly-named MBE Ray Mitchell, the gala itself was opened by entertainer Christian.

For the rest of the day young and old alike enjoyed a variety of attractions and activities ranging from a climbing wall, games and races to stalls and raffles.
