PARISHIONERS at Dalziel St Andrew’s Parish Church are celebrating the end of its refurbishment.

A thanksgiving service was held recently to mark the occasion, with guests including Frank Roy MP and John Pentland MSP.

The two-year makeover project recently concluded having seen the installation of a new heating system and a number of improvements both inside and out.

In addition to the comprehensive property upgrade, the congregation tackled the restoration of the historic Walcker Pipe Organ. Installed in 1900 the organ has been restored to use with the successful contractor being Walcker and Son of Germany, who manufactured the organ initially.

Gerhard Walcker and his sons are due to return from Germany next spring to undertake another phase of the work.

Members of the church, which opened for worship in 1874, worked tirelessly on fundraising to cover the cost of the facelift and are sure to be delighted with the end result.

Parish minister, the Rev Derek Hughes, said: “It is our desire to worship and serve God well at the heart of the town.

“The refurbishment of our premises, through prayer and perseverance, makes this possible in a new way.

“Following our return to the sanctuary, we look forward to the opportunities God will give us to grow His Kingdom.”
