A GROUP of St Aidan’s High pupils donated £75 to a café for the benefit of those with dementia.

The Living Well with Dementia Café has been running for almost a year, aimed at those with dementia and memory concerns.

The youngsters decided to raise the money after NHS Lanarkshire community nurse Hazel Boyle and consultant psychiatrist Dr Adam Daly gave dementia talks to all year groups.

The café provides an informal and relaxed environment to ask questions and get information and advice from health professionals.

Among those present are specialist doctors, memory service nurses, an advocacy worker, an occupational therapist as well as representatives from Alzheimer Scotland and Carers Together.

Hazel said: “We want to reduce the stigma of a dementia and other memory concerns and give those affected a place where they can gather, share their experiences and get some practical support in a friendly setting.”

The cafe is open from 1pm to 4pm in the Centenary Suite at Fir Park on the first Friday of every month, the next being this Friday (July 6).
