Pupils land top award
Bellshill Academy pupils Jason Clark and Abby Cathcart and Joseph McAuley from Cardinal Newman High celebrate after receiving their award in the Great Hall at Edinburgh Castle.
PUPILS from two Bellshill schools picked up a national award at Edinburgh Castle last week for their work on a joint project to combat sectarianism.
Senior pupils from Bellshill Academy and Cardinal Newman High teamed up earlier this year to produce a DVD entitled ‘Them And Us’ - a hard-hitting film with a strong anti-sectarianism message.
The project was jointly funded by the Crown Office and North Lanarkshire Council - and the efforts of the pupils were rewarded when the project won the ‘Serving our Diverse Communities’ prize at the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service’s Excellence Awards.
The ceremony took place in the spectacular setting of the Great Hall of Edinburgh Castle and both schools received their award from the Lord Advocate Frank Mulholland QC and the Solicitor General, Lesley Thomson.
