Prize time at St Teresa’s

PUPILS at St Teresa’s Primary in Newarthill received awards at the annual prizegiving for their excellent efforts in the curriculum and community service.

The Aiming Higher Shields are awarded to youngsters who make an outstanding effort in the class and school for excellent behaviour, effort or success in the curriculum.

These went to: R1 - Amy Stewart, R2 - Liam McSorley, R3 - Sam Bradley, R4 - Jack Valentine, R10 - Amy Burton, R11 - Holly Canning, R12 Martin Crossan, R13 - Erin McCulloch, R14 - Muskan Bano.

Therese McEwen Shield for art and design - Anthony McGuinness, Centenary Shield for excellence in drama - Wojciech Cieslak, Musician of the Year Shield - Dannielle Whelan, John Kane Memorial Shield for technology - Martin Foy.

Michael McMahon MSP Shield for community service - Conor Marshall, Eco Award for protecting the school environment - Yaeesh Khan, Sports Person of the Year - Robbie Bruce, Golden Jubilee Trophy for excellent effort in class work - Mariaay Amjad.

This year’s winning house at the annual sports day was Louden and captain Amy White collected the Geraldine Orr Shield on behalf of the group.

For the first time a shield was awarded in memory of former depute headteacher Ada Ward to a pupil in P1-3 who made an outstanding effort in reading with the inaugural prize going to Jack Bruce.

The Lawrence Mitchell Shield is awarded to a P7 pupil who is nominated and selected by staff for outstanding contribution to the ethos of the school and this year went to Jamie Clifford.
