Parkinson’s brings the generations together

Parkinson’s Self Help Group (Motherwell area) and a group of young people from Braidhurst High School’s Prince’s Trust XL Group have been working together on an inter-generational project to raise awareness of the condition.

The groups are supported by North Lanarkshire Council’s community learning and development staff Peter McNally and Linda McGurk, and as part of project activity, the XL group attended a presentation about the Parkinson’s condition and took part in a discussion and questions and answers session.

As a result, the young people accepted an invitation from the Parkinson’s Group to take part in their St Andrew’s Day celebrations in the Bellshill Locality office, organised by PSHG development worker Margaret Cassidy.

The young people performed a short drama with support from teachers Karen Lamb and Leigh Ashraf which highlighted their range of skills and talent, and also their ability to work as part of a team.

Furthermore, they have also decided to take part in a fundraising activity for the Parkinson’s group which will help them to develop their weekly ‘drop-in’ facility.

PSHG chairman Jim McRobbie thanked the Braidhurst pupils and highlighted how impressed the group were with their performance and hard work.
