Hats off to fundraiser
ON THE ROAD . . . Andy has a support van that follows him along the route.
MOTHERWELL and Bellshill hosted a trailblazing fundraiser last week.
Andy Peddle (70) is taking part in an 18-month sponsored walk across the UK in a bid to raise £100,000 for The Salvation Army’s work with homeless people and victims of human trafficking.
The Buckinghamshire man started his epic journey on May 16 at the Shetland Islands and is spending just under three months walking to 130 Salvation Army churches (corps), lifehouses and charity shops in Scotland.
He visited the Bellshill church on Gladstone Street and the Motherwell church on Camp Street last Wednesday.
At each base, he gave a talk about the issues of human trafficking and homelessness and sang ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’.
Andy said: “The Salvation Army’s saying ‘Heart to God, hand to man’ has inspired me to take on this challenge.
“It is a personal pilgrimage too. We are renting out our home and my wife has relocated to Leeds whilst I am raising the money. I have a support van following me on my trek so I can have a break and sleep wherever needed.”
